Heat Wave Prep Time
Hey Man,
Right now we need to worry about the heat, not a hurricane. So it's time to review your standby generator. We have unprecedented reliability concerns this Summer in Texas. Several new power plants were cancelled and we are pushing the grid.
First reduce your electric usage with better lighting, windows, and insulation.
Now consider a stand by generator to protect you and your loved ones from the heat.
Natural gas will still be on at your home if the electricity fails in most cases.
Now that I have a completely new A/C system I am considering a fixed stand by generator for my home.
cheers

Hurricane Season prep time
Hi
The experts again predict a busy season to justify their jobs.
What can you do to overcome a power outage at home?
Here are a few tips:
Pray .
Make up with friends and family, you may need to visit them for a while.
Consider installing a standby generator or get a multi-fuel carb for your portable generator. Gasoline, residential natural gas, and propane can all power your generator. Residential natural gas is the last utility you will loose in a hurricane or other emergency.
I plan on ordering such a carb after I publish this.
Get a damp location portable window fan to run off your generator.
For A/C keep that window unit, add a split system, or portable so your generator can carry it. That will allow your generator to keep part of your house cool.
That helped me a lot the last time.
If you are going to get a mini refrigerator for the garage or game room, get one that will fit under your desk at work, again that helped me last time.
Have a battery holiday to start hurricane season, and change all of your batteries out.
Look at the charge times for rechargeable batteries, your may be able to recharge at work.
Some rechargeable batteries take too long to recharge to be helpful. I recharged my DeWalt 36v batteries at work last time. That powered my primary flashlight.
Get an inverter for your auto, then you can recharge batteries on the road.
Solar chargers for camping can keep your radios working. Siemens offers a scalable home solar package now that could keep part of your home up if the storm dosen’t carry it away.
Now I better buy that carb and some batteries.
Cheers,
